Our region : The Maures
> Hide text
The Maures region stretches out along the Var Coast, from Hyères to Fréjus.
Its « must-see » is the village of Saint-Tropez, known all over the world, but other coastal towns and the hinterland are worth the visit.
« Les Maures » also refers to a small mountain cut by deep ravines and covered with a thick vegetation of chestnut trees, pine trees, oak trees, vineyards and flower fields.
The Route des Crêtes and the Maures Corniche, both overlooking the sea, offer dazzling scenic views.
Off the coast, the three Hyères Islands (Porquerolles, Port-Cros and the Ile du Levant) are a beautiful preserved bunch : lagoon-blue waters, high rocks, luxuriant vegetation (olive trees, alep pines, mimosas...). A paradise for scubadiving, hiking and cycling.
Bormes les Mimosas, Grimaud, Cogolin… are lovely hinterland villages, typically « provençal ».
Saint-Tropez of course, but other seaside resorts such as Port-Grimaud or Le Lavandou are particularly enticing with their beautiful sandy beaches and glistening blue waters.
Local specialities : fish soup, bouillabaisse (thick fish soup), bourride with aïoli (fish stew with garlic mayonnaise), feasant, quail, trout, mushrooms, goat cheese, broussin, honey, chestnut jam, chestnuts, tropézienne pie, patience (biscuit), nougat glacé, marron glacé from Collorbière...
Wines : Côtes de Provence...
